Weekend Cleansing Diet

Most people take better care of their cars than their own bodies. A sunny day in the summer brings people out of their homes, to wash their cars lovingly while they defile themselves with chemical-ridden hot dogs off the barbie. People spend hours cleaning their homes and then are too rushed for time to prepare a meal made with fresh, wholesome ingredients to nourish themselves - instead they opt for a trip to Burger King.

Take a weekend and follow the diet below. Bring the love you feel for things outside yourself back to yourself.

Two days prior to the diet, it is a good idea to eat only whole grains and beans, vegetable protein or fish, vegetables, and fruits. No dairy, meat, coffee, or sugar.

I have done this fast/diet from one to three days. Pick a weekend when you can hide and try it.

MORNING

Herb Tea Mixture
Boil three 1/4-inch slices of fresh gingerroot in 1-1/2 pints of distilled or filtered water for three minutes. Pour this over 1 heaping T of the following mixture, consisting of equal parts: peppermint, licorice root, fennel seed, and fenugreek seed. Steep 10 to 15 minutes.

Liver Flush Drink
Juice of several oranges or grapefruit, 6 T lemon juice, 3T cold-pressed olive oil, and 2 to 4 crushed cloves of garlic. (I usually chug the olive oil and use the juice as a chaser - same for the garlic.) Follow Liver Flush Drink with 1 or 2 cups of tea.

MID-MORNING

Fresh Vegetable Juice If you don't own a juicer, find a place that does. Go there and have any combination of carrots, celery, beets, parsley, spinach, and wheatgrass.

LUNCH

Large Salad
Any combination of veggies and sprouts. Dressing of lemon juice and cold-pressed olive, sesame, safflower, or sunflower oil, with garlic, onions, and spices for flavoring.

LATE AFTERNOON

Fresh Vegetable Juice Same as mid-morning.

DINNER

Large Salad
Either another large vegetable salad, same as lunch, or a fresh fruit salad.

THROUGHOUT THE DAY

Herb Tea Mix and plenty of distilled or filtered water.

OTHER SUGGESTIONS

Go on a newsfast. Shut off the TV, forget the paper, and just concentrate on the things you really can change in your life.

Dry brush your skin with a natural-bristle body brush before your shower or bath.

Take lots of walks outside and breathe deeply.
